7/23: Gelli Printing: Image Transfer

Thursday, July 23, 4:30-6pm with Susan Shayegi

1 h 30 min
50 US dollars
Southwest 6th Street

Class Description

More gelli printing! Learn how to incorporate found images or your own personal art or photos to your gelli print creations. You’ll explore methods to transfer magazine and laser print images to the gelli plate and print them in a single color or with blends and textures. Ink toner acts as a resist to paint, making the image work like a stencil. Artists have used this method to add a theme to a collage or create a unique art style such as the Pop Art look of Andy Warhol. By the end of class you’ll have a collection of small 5x7 prints, and if you choose, a larger piece using the gelli techniques of your choice. Tools and materials will be provided, but you may consider bringing: ● gelli plate and brayer if you have previously purchased one ● black and white laser printed images ● magazine images-best have strong contrast, dark on white or light, glossy surface, text also works well to transfer Participants should have some previous gelli printing experience. Gelli plate & brayer available for purchase.
